Postcard from Nancy & Peter

The Jersey Lilly

Langtry, TX
April 2001

Dear Jake & Amelia,
On our way to Big Bend National Park, we stopped in the small town of  Langtry. Langtry, we learned, is where Judge Roy Bean handed out his own brand of justice west of the Pecos. His courtroom was a saloon and a billiard hall. Card games were interrupted when a case was heard. The building is still standing. The Judge was fascinated with the English actress Lily Langtry. He called the courthouse the Jersey Lilly and named the town after her.

If you stop to get gas, you might find some locals  playing cards with a gun toting mannequin of the Judge.
