Wisconsin Farm Buildings

Dodgeville, WI
September 2001

Dear Jake & Amelia,
We drove south along the Mississippi River under heavy skies. Everything around us was a tone of gray. After spending so much time in the desert and after driving through acres and acres of dry grasslands in the prairies, the water, moisture, trees and shrubs seemed foreign. We longed for blue sky and sun to show us colors.

We turned east on Route 18 and drove through gently rolling farmland. The patchwork fields and trees were all lush shades of green. We passed barns and silos, cows and corn. We stopped to buy sweet corn, turning down a dirt driveway. Between the barn and the stucco farmhouse, a working team of horses stood patiently in harness. As we continued east, the sun came from behind the clouds.
