Savoy Mountain State Park

Florida, MA
September 2001

Dear Jake & Amelia,
Our last night camping, we parked the Little House on the crest of a small rise at the top of a grassy field.  The trees beyond were just beginning to show autumn colors. After supper, we built a fire from wood that we had gathered from the forest. We stared into the changing flames. Our trip was ending.

We woke up to a sunny day. The long grasses were covered with dew, silvery in the morning light. The Little House looked tiny next to a huge tree. We drove east on the Mohawk Trail to Gould's Sugarhouse. Hungry, we hoped they were open. They were. The pancakes were light and wonderful, the homemade pickles, just right, the maple syrup, yummy. We bought our winter supply of syrup and headed home.
